My House, My Temple
Lagoon blue + vintage looking glass + just-arrived-home suitcase
A Private House Society state of mind is simple. All of your senses delighted and fully engaged in your house and garden. Minimal distraction from the outside world –except what you deem critical. This is your refuge. Your nest. Your castle. Your temple. Your space in the world to just be and live richly.
Find YOUR blissful formula.
We, for example, live close to the rhythm of the seasons and desire natural change throughout the year and always with these fundamentals:
Touch: edit to rugs, blankets, throws, pillows, linens that feel euphoric to your skin
Visual: choose walls, floors, major fixtures, furniture in color, material & style that trip your heart to see – then add ONLY the accessories & objects that you love 100% in your soul
Lighting: try alternatives to just the overhead light –in fact, avoid that (or get a dimmer switch) & just light with multiple table top and floor lights. Keep "pub lighting" from twilight to bedtime. Throw in a candle or two and a well-placed strand of twinkle lights –magic!
Scent: identify your happy smell and make it present daily via fragrance methods you like
Sound: to your comfort level, omit any source of sound that is not needed –background TV, phone notifications, dripping faucet...give yourself some space to breath undistracted...delight in silence or music or a child reading to you
Every household has varying degrees of challenge, yet, these fundamentals should be kept to the forefront and, of course, to your exact specifications! A consistently clean and tidy base is imperative. Then, the key is to edit to things of your absolute liking –the rest to be recycled, tossed, given away, sold. Be harsh! Make it a priority to edit hard and often; soon you will find that your house is a sacred place to be for a much needed recharge to tackle the world.
P.S. this applies to the lawn and gardens around your house, too, as it is an outside extension to the inside!
La vie est l'art!
